Statement of Purpose
The mission of Lutheran Church of the Cross is to gather souls for Christ with a Christ-centered, Bible-based, spiritually-motivated congregation that utilizes the time, talents, and treasures of its members to reach out to the community to offer caring fellowship to all individuals.
We invite you to share in God's blessings and fellowship and in the many activities of our parish whether you are a winter resident, full-time resident, or just visiting for a short period.
We are a member of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod LCMS.
Located in Southwest Florida just off Interstate I75 in the Port Charlotte / Punta Gorda - Deep Creek area (map).
The Lenten Season begins on February 14 with the observance of Ash Wednesday and will conclude with the celebration of the Resurrection on Sunday, April 1. During this time, our Lenten Services will be based on the Book of Job. The subject matter in the Book of Job is pertinent to our day and age, as our society struggles with the same issues and questions Job and his contemporaries struggled to understand.
Why do we suffer?
Why do we worship God?
How do we deal with many issue of life for which we have no answers?
Over the weeks of Lent we will gollow this schedule:
“Flying Blind” (Job 1:1-12)
“Sweet Surrender” (Job 1:13-21)
“Learning to Lament” (Job 3:1-26)
“It Is Enough” (Job 14:1-14)
“Understanding How it all Works Together” (Job 23:1-17)
“God Speaks in the Storm” (Job 38:1-11)
“On Earth is not His Equal” (Job 41:20-34)
“Tearing Down the Spite House” (Job 42:7-9)
Beginning on February 11, the Sunday morning Bible Studies will feed into and support our midweek Lenten Services by exploring the theme and structure of the Book of Job. We will review the past midweek service, as we prepare for the upcoming Wednesday service. There will be two worship times for each midweek service, at 10:15 AM and 7:00 PM. The times of worship for Good Friday will vary slightly, with worship times at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
